Handmade Artifacts from Africa

Hello!  This week I would like to share with you a great web store that features African art.

The work of Cameroonian artisans is being showcased by mTIDI in order to support their livelihood.  Please visit their website at www.mtidi.ca and have a look at their unique products which include handmade furniture and accessories.

Below are a couple of toss cushions made by Rose Mbongo and her team of artisans.  The cover is made of 100% cotton and the down fill is 95% white goose feather and 5% white goose down.

Rose and her team of artisans use a unique stencil technique to make the scene on the cover of the pillow.  It is first drawn out on tracing paper and then stenciled onto the cushion.  Once the printing is complete, it is then dried out in the sun for a couple of hours to prevent smudging.  The cushion covers and inserts are then assembled in Toronto.

The cushions measure 18″ x 18″ and retail at $80.00 each.  mTIDI also has a collection of unique furniture pieces so be sure to check it out!
